Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Motif AI LLC ("Motif," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, discloses, and protects information when you use the Motif website, checkout flow, license service, installer, desktop application, DAW integrations, updates, diagnostics, support channels, and related services (collectively, the "Services").
Plain-Language Data Map
Most Motif desktop and DAW-control data stays on your Windows computer. License activation, entitlement checks, secure installer access, support, diagnostics, and security logs go to Motif AI LLC services, including api.motifai.music. Payment details are handled by Stripe. Motif AI LLC receives checkout, receipt, payment-status, tax, fraud-prevention, refund, and license metadata from Stripe, but not your full card number.
When you use AI features with an AI provider key, Motif sends your AI provider the information needed to answer the request or perform the requested DAW workflow. That may include your typed or spoken command, relevant chat context, DAW state summaries, track/plugin/parameter names, arrangement metadata, audio-derived analysis text when needed, and generated AI responses. Motif does not intentionally send full project files, raw audio recordings, Stripe payment details, or your Motif activation key to your AI provider.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information needed to provide, activate, secure, support, and improve Motif, including:
- Account and contact information. Email address, name if provided, support contact details, account identifiers, and communication preferences.
- Order, checkout, and entitlement information. Order identifiers, receipt details, product plan, license status, activation records, payment status, tax and fraud-prevention metadata, and limited payment confirmation data from Stripe or another payment processor. Motif does not receive full card numbers from Stripe.
- Device and app information. Generated device identifier, device name, operating system, app version, installer version, entitlement checks, activation events, IP address, request headers, timestamps, error codes, crash or diagnostic data, and anti-abuse signals.
- Local desktop and DAW integration information. Runtime configuration, generated JSON state, plugin scan output, DAW bridge state, bridge IPC files, setup state, update state, operational logs, supported DAW folders, mapping files, key schemes, macros, and related integration state.
- AI request information. Prompts, instructions, DAW state summaries, plugin names, parameter names, arrangement metadata, audio-derived analysis text, system context, and generated responses used for AI-enabled features.
- API keys and credentials stored locally. Motif activation key and user-provided AI provider API key, when entered, may be stored locally under %APPDATA%\Motif\.env or other documented Motif runtime locations.
- Support information. Messages you send to support, attachments, screenshots, logs, diagnostics, activation or order identifiers, and related troubleshooting metadata.
- Website and analytics information. Browser type, device type, pages viewed, referring pages, approximate location derived from IP address, cookie or local-storage identifiers, and interactions with the website, checkout, or support flows.
Motif does not intentionally collect full DAW project files, raw audio recordings, or full session files unless you choose to send them to support or include them in a feature workflow that expressly processes them. AI and diagnostic features may process summaries, metadata, audio-derived analysis text, or excerpts necessary to perform the requested function.
2. Sources of Information
We collect information from:
- you, when you purchase, activate, configure, contact support, or use Motif;
- your device and Motif software, when the installer, desktop app, updater, license service, diagnostics, or integrations run;
- payment processors, license infrastructure, hosting providers, analytics providers, security providers, and support tools;
- AI providers you configure, when AI-enabled features are used; and
- DAWs, plugins, local files, and system environments to the extent needed for supported Motif workflows.
3. Local Storage and Desktop Processing
Motif may store local data under your Windows user profile and system application folders, including %APPDATA%\Motif, %ProgramData%\Motif, supported DAW user folders, and other documented Motif runtime locations. Local data may include activation keys, user-provided AI-provider keys, runtime configuration, logs, JSON state, plugin scan output, bridge IPC files, DAW bridge files, mappings, macros, key schemes, generated state, backups, and setup or update files.
You are responsible for securing your device account, Windows profile, local filesystem, backups, and any API keys stored locally. Removing or changing local activation or API-key data may disable related features until valid credentials are restored.
4. License Activation and Entitlement
Motif may process activation keys, generated device identifiers, device names, app versions, operating-system data, entitlement request metadata, license status, device-limit data, usage-limit data, anti-abuse signals, IP addresses, timestamps, and related logs to activate paid features, verify entitlement, enforce license terms, prevent fraud and abuse, support users, and maintain security.
5. DAW Integration Files
By enabling a DAW integration, you authorize Motif to install, update, repair, replace, modify, back up, or remove local helper files, bridge files, scripts, configuration files, mapping files, logs, runtime state, IPC files, and related components in supported DAW folders and Motif runtime locations. For Studio One / Studio Pro workflows, Motif may update key scheme, macro, or control-related configuration files, including bindings used by Motif bridge functionality.
Motif generally attempts to preserve backups before replacing supported existing configuration files, but backups are not guaranteed in every environment. You should maintain your own backups of DAW projects, sessions, presets, mappings, and custom configuration before using automation or integration features.
6. AI Features and Third-Party AI Providers
Some AI features require a user-provided AI provider API key. Motif does not provide a shared AI provider key. When AI features are used, prompts, instructions, DAW state summaries, plugin names, parameter names, arrangement metadata, audio-derived analysis text, and related request context may be sent to the configured AI provider under your provider account or API key.
AI providers process request data under their own terms, privacy notices, retention settings, and account controls. If no valid AI-provider key is configured, AI generation, suggestions, and related features may be unavailable or limited.
7. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- operate the website, checkout, license service, installer, desktop app, DAW integrations, support, diagnostics, and updates;
- process orders, issue licenses, validate activation, enforce entitlements, manage device limits, and prevent unauthorized use;
- install, configure, update, repair, and troubleshoot supported DAW integrations;
- enable AI-powered suggestions and workflow functionality when you configure an AI provider;
- provide customer support, respond to requests, and communicate about purchases, updates, security, and service changes;
- detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents, license misuse, and violations of terms;
- measure reliability, analyze performance, debug crashes, improve product quality, and develop new features;
- comply with legal obligations, tax requirements, accounting rules, sanctions screening, and lawful requests; and
- protect the rights, safety, and property of Motif, users, licensors, service providers, and third parties.
8. Cookies, Local Storage, and Analytics
Motif may use cookies, local storage, pixels, logs, and similar technologies for website operation, checkout, security, fraud prevention, analytics, preferences, and support. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some technologies may affect checkout, account, licensing, or website functionality.
Motif does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Where required by law, Motif honors applicable opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control, for browser-based interactions with the Services.
9. How We Share Information

10. Legal Bases for EEA, UK, and Similar Regions
Where a legal basis is required, Motif processes personal information based on one or more of the following:
- Contract. To provide the Services, process purchases, activate licenses, deliver support, and perform requested features.
- Legitimate interests. To secure the Services, prevent abuse, improve reliability, troubleshoot issues, communicate with users, and operate Motif's business in a way that does not override applicable privacy rights.
- Consent. Where you choose to provide optional data, configure an AI provider, enable optional communications, or where consent is otherwise required.
- Legal obligation. To comply with tax, accounting, sanctions, consumer-protection, security, dispute, and legal-process requirements.
11. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain licenses, process purchases, support users, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, protect against fraud and abuse, and maintain business records. Retention periods depend on the type of information, the purpose of processing, legal requirements, and operational needs.
Local Motif data generally remains on your device until you edit it, rotate keys, clear local runtime data, uninstall Motif, or delete remaining files manually. Some DAW bridge files, backups, generated state, logs, or modified DAW user-folder files may remain after uninstall if they are outside the uninstaller's removal scope, have been modified, are required to preserve user configuration, or are controlled by a DAW.
12. Security
Motif uses administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including HTTPS, access controls, tokenized entitlement checks, least-privilege practices, monitoring, and operational security measures. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and you are responsible for protecting your own device, local files, backups, activation credentials, and user-provided API keys.
13. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or appeal of certain privacy decisions. You may also have the right to opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain profiling where applicable. Motif does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To make a privacy request, contact support@motifai.music. We may verify your request by asking for information reasonably necessary to confirm your identity and authority. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law and may be required to provide proof of authorization.
You can also control local data by editing or deleting files under %APPDATA%\Motif, rotating or removing your Motif activation key, rotating or removing your AI provider API key, uninstalling Motif from Windows Apps and Features, clearing browser cookies, or deleting remaining local Motif and DAW bridge files where safe to do so.
